Pamela Corkey - Director
Pamela Corkey is a screenwriter and film director with a wide range of experience. As a composing major at Boston University&Mac182;s School of Fine Arts, Pamela began sneaking into film classes to satisfy an ever-growing passion for film. After her first short, "Beef Jerky", won a best comedy award at the New England Super 8 Film Festival, Pamela decided to turn her full attention to making movies and transferred to the College of Communications. After making three 16mm shorts and earning a Bachelors Degree in film, Pamela was accepted to the American Film Institutes Directors Program and moved to Los Angeles. While at AFI she made three more shorts and wrote two features, earning a Masters of Fine Arts degree in both Directing and Screenwriting. One of the shorts, "White Trash on Fire", was selected for the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art FreeWaves Independent Film & Video Exhibition which toured the West Coast and aired on PBS. She stayed in Los Angeles and had a brief stint writing for Foxs "Amazing Spiderman" and "Carmen Sandiego" cartoon series. She was also hired by director Mel Howard to write a feature film entitled "Splinter", based on an original idea. During this time, Pamela co-directed a music video for the band "SuperGroup" and made two more short films of her own.
After several years in Los Angeles, Pamela moved back to Boston to start a production company with four other filmmakers. Firefly Films & Multimedia was located in Newton and made documentaries, music videos, corporate videos, websites, and CD-ROMs. In 1996 she founded a professional writers collective, The Hive Mind, which has since grown in numbers and momentum and has recently started producing short films. After 3 years Pamela sold her shares of Firefly to a partner and began teaching film at Emerson College and producing her first feature film, Easy Listening, which was shot during summer 2000. She lives in Jamaica Plain with her two sons, Milo and Oscar.
