Matthew Wagenknecht - Director of Photography
Grandson of noted film historian Edward Wagenknecht, Matthew Wagenknecht's interest in film started at an early age. He watched many D.W. Griffith and Chaplin films at his grandfather&Mac182;s house. Matthew started making films in high school with an 8mm camera that was given to him by his uncle.
After high school Matthew attended Mass. College of Art, majoring in film. He directed and shot 5 short films of his own and worked as director of photography on several others. Matthew attended graduate school at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles as a Cinematography major. At A.F.I. Matthew shot 5 projects including 3 for director Pamela Corkey.
After graduating from A.F.I. Matthew returned to his hometown of Boston, purchased an Arriflex 16mm camera package and went into the business of shooting independent films. He shot several short films before returning to Los Angeles to shoot his first feature "Schizophrenic". Since then Matthew has shot numerous short films and features in the Boston area and around the country. His many credits include the features "Easy Listening" with director Pamela Corkey, "Serial Intentions" with director Brad Jaques, "Gabriella" and "Lost Soul" with director Anthony Duva, "Gavins Way" with director Dan Farquarson, and the short film "Shrub" with director Julia Healy, filmed in Montana. Matthew has also shot several music videos including "Help is on the Way" with director Victoria Biggers (winner of first prize for best music video at the Houston Film Festival).
Matthew now owns both 16mm and 35mmcamera packages. His lighting and camerawork is highly regarded in the Boston area and around the country.
